So, What is a Merrowed Edge?

One of the most common questions we get asked about borders & edges is “What is a merrow edge?” Merrowed edges are also commonly known as merrowed borders, and they’re an option we offer for the borders of our custom patches.

Merrowed edges are sealed with an overlock stitch in the color of your choice, and can only be used on regular shapes. If you want a heart-shaped patch or a star-shaped patch, for example, then you can’t use a merrowed border. But if you’re making a traditional circular patch, then merrowed borders are a great choice to give your patch a fine-tuned, “finished” look. They’ll also make your custom patch even studier, preventing any potential for fraying at the edges. Because of this, merrow edges are an extremely popular option for our customers.

How Do I Know if Merrowed Borders Will Work With My Patch?

Most patches using standard shapes, such as circles, round-edged squares, and so on, will work perfectly with a merrowed border.
